About This Treatment
Her nails were bare when she sat down, so no removal was needed and the set was built directly on her natural nails. No extensions were added, so the finished length matches her own nail length.
Design Points
Accent Design works on a simple principle: instead of covering every nail with the same pattern, the art is concentrated on a limited number of nails. Here, up to six nails carried the design, and the remaining nails were finished to support them rather than compete with them. The result reads as one set, not ten separate ideas.
Because everything sits on the natural nail with no added length, the shape of her own nail plate stays visible through the finish. Short, unextended nails also change how art is placed — the design is positioned to sit within the visible surface when the hand is held out flat, so nothing gets cut off at the curve of the tip.

Story from the Visit
She works as a nurse, and she’d been proposed to earlier this year. A set of nails for a hand that’s about to wear a ring, done on a day off from shift work — that context shaped a few of the choices, especially keeping the length practical rather than dramatic. She looked genuinely pleased when she checked both hands at the end.
Care and Style Points
A gel set applied straight onto natural nails, with no extensions, typically holds its look for around three to four weeks. After that, the regrowth at the base becomes noticeable before the gel itself starts to go.
A few habits that help:
- Apply cuticle oil once a day, especially if you wash and sanitise your hands frequently. Alcohol-based sanitiser dries the skin around the nail faster than it affects the gel.
- Don’t use your nails as tools for opening or prying. On natural-length nails, the stress goes straight into the nail plate.
- Never peel gel off. Have it removed properly, or the surface layers of your own nail come away with it.
Accent Design suits people who want real nail art but need to keep it moderate — for work, for uniforms, for any environment where a full set of bold art isn’t practical. It’s also a good option if you’d like to try nail art in Tokyo without committing to length, since it reads clearly even on short nails.
A Note from Mami
With accent work, most of the thinking happens before the brush touches the nail: which fingers carry the art, and which ones stay quiet. Get that balance wrong and the hand looks unbalanced when it moves. I tend to check it by asking the guest to relax her hands naturally rather than posing them, because that’s how she’ll actually see them all day.
This was a set for someone with an occasion ahead of her, and it was nice to work on nails meant to be looked at for a happy reason.
