About This Treatment
Nailist: Mami Menu: Full Design Custom Removal / rebalance: none — the nails were bare at the start Options: extensions on all ten nails
The client is from the United States and was visiting Japan.
Design Points
Because there was no existing gel or acrylic to take off, the set started from the natural nail. That means the entire shape — length, curve, and the line of the tip — was built from scratch rather than adjusted from a previous set.
Extensions were applied to all ten nails, so the balance across both hands was planned as a whole: matching lengths between the thumb and the little finger, and a sidewall line that keeps the nail looking narrow rather than wide. The Full Design Custom menu allows each nail to carry its own artwork instead of repeating one pattern ten times, so the design was mapped out nail by nail before the art was painted.

A Note from the Visit
She was spending four weeks in Japan with her boyfriend, and the appointment fell in the middle of that trip. Her own accessory styling was striking, and that sense of coordination came through in the conversation about how the set should look on her hands.
She was visibly happy with the result at the end of the appointment.
Care and Styling Notes
Extensions built on bare nails generally hold their look for about three to four weeks. After that, the growth at the base becomes noticeable, and a fill or a fresh set is the usual next step. That timing happens to suit longer trips — a set done early in a multi-week stay will typically still look good on the flight home.
A few practical points for extensions:
- Apply cuticle oil once or twice a day. Dry skin at the base makes regrowth look more obvious than it is.
- Treat the tips as decoration, not tools. Opening cans or peeling stickers with them is the most common cause of a lifted nail.
- Dry the nails properly after baths and onsen visits, especially around the sidewalls.
- If a nail does lift or catch, don’t pull it off — the natural nail underneath comes away with it.
This kind of set suits anyone who wants length they don’t currently have, or who wants a design with enough surface area for detailed artwork. Ten extensions also let a nailist balance finger lengths, which is worth knowing if you’ve felt your nails look short in photos.
Comment from the Nailist
Mami: “Starting from bare nails is the part I enjoy most. There’s nothing to work around, so the shape can be decided purely by the hand in front of me. With ten extensions, I spend a lot of time on the C-curve and the sidewall lines before touching any color — if those are off, even a good design won’t sit right. Thank you for choosing lull. during your stay.”
