A Smooth One-Shade Gel Finish After a Soft Gel Removal | Single-Color Gel Nails in Harajuku

About This Treatment

This set was done at lull. in Harajuku by our nail artist Nami. The guest chose our One Color menu, starting with a soft gel removal of her previous set before the new colour was applied. She was visiting Japan from Ukraine, and the appointment was handled in English.

Design Highlights

One shade across all ten nails, built up in thin layers so the colour stays even from the cuticle line to the free edge. Nami kept the gel just shy of the skin on each side, which is what keeps a single-colour set looking sharp rather than bulky as it grows out. The natural nail shape and length were kept as they were after the removal, then sealed with a high-shine top coat. A set like this reads as very simple at a glance, but the flatness of the surface and the clean outline around the cuticle are doing all the work.

A Note from the Visit

The chair conversation went well beyond nails. Our guest talked about life back home in Ukraine, and we got onto the subject of Japanese food — specifically how nutrient-dense everyday meals here tend to be compared to what she was used to. It is a comment we hear often from guests travelling in Japan, and it made for a good hour. She looked genuinely pleased when she saw the finished hands.

Care and Styling Tips

A soft gel removal followed by a fresh one-colour application is one of the most practical options for anyone who wears gel regularly. A few general points worth knowing:

  • Wear time: a single-colour soft gel set usually holds its look for around three to four weeks. The first thing to show is regrowth at the cuticle, not chipping.
  • Removal matters: soft gel should be softened and lifted off properly, never peeled. Peeling takes thin layers of the natural nail with it, which is what leads to that rough, papery surface.
  • Daily care: cuticle oil once a day keeps the skin around the gel from drying and lifting. Gloves for dishes and cleaning also extend wear.
  • Who it suits: people who want something that passes anywhere — work, travel photos, formal dinners — and those who prefer a shorter appointment. It is also a good reset if your nails have been under art-heavy sets for a while.

A Word from Your Nail Artist

Nami: “One Color is the menu where there is nowhere to hide, so I take my time on the base and the cuticle line. With this guest the hour flew by — we were comparing food and everyday life in our two countries the whole way through, and she was still talking about Japanese meals when she left. Simple nails and a good conversation is honestly one of my favourite kinds of appointment.”
