About This Treatment
This set was done by Mami at lull. in Harajuku. The guest chose Full Design Light, and her existing gel was handled with the fill-in method rather than a full removal. She visited us from the United States.
Design Points
Full Design Light means art on every nail, not just one or two accent fingers, so the ten nails read as one continuous set rather than a base color with a highlight.
The fill-in approach shaped the whole process. Instead of stripping everything back to bare nail, the sound base layer from the previous set is kept, the lifted areas are filed away, and new gel is built over the regrowth zone. The line where old and new meet is levelled out before the design goes on, which is what keeps the surface flat and the cuticle area thin. A thick ridge near the cuticle catches light and shows up immediately in photos, so most of the work here happens before anything decorative starts.

A Note on the Visit
She came to Japan on her honeymoon, and this appointment was part of the trip. She also told us she is half Japanese, so the visit had a bit more to it than sightseeing. She looked genuinely pleased with the finished set when she checked it under the light.
Care and Style Points
A few practical notes on this kind of menu.
How long it lasts. Gel with a fill-in base generally holds around three to four weeks before the regrowth becomes visible. The gel itself often looks fine longer than that, but the gap at the cuticle is usually what makes people book again.
Daily care. Cuticle oil once or twice a day is the single most useful habit. Dry skin around the nail is what makes the edge of the gel start lifting. Gloves for dishwashing and cleaning help for the same reason.
What not to do. Don’t use your nails as tools — opening cans, peeling stickers, prying anything. Full design sets in particular have layers built up over the surface, and a sharp impact tends to crack rather than chip.
Who this suits. Fill-in works well for anyone who wears gel continuously and wants to reduce how often the natural nail is filed down. It’s also a reasonable choice mid-trip: the appointment is shorter than a full removal and rebuild, and you leave with a complete new design.
Comment from Mami
Doing nails for someone on their honeymoon means the set gets photographed a lot over the following days — hands in front of temples, holding coffee, in every couple shot. I kept that in mind while working on the cuticle line, since that’s the part that shows up in close-range photos more than anything else.
Fill-in also rewards patience at the filing stage. Get the transition flat and the design sits evenly across the nail. Rush it and no amount of art on top hides the step.
