About This Treatment
Design Highlights
The whole set was built around pale tones. Instead of one strong statement color, the shades were kept light and close in tone, so the nails read as soft rather than graphic from a distance.
An accent design puts the artwork on a limited number of nails while the remaining nails stay simple. That structure keeps the overall look calm, and it also lets a pale palette carry the design without needing high contrast to hold attention. On bare nails, thin, even layers matter more than usual — a light color shows every ridge and shadow underneath, so the base was smoothed and built up gradually to keep the finish flat and clear.
The Visit
This was her very first time getting her nails done, and she chose to have it done in Tokyo while travelling from the Philippines. During the consultation she said she likes pale colors, so the palette was set from there rather than from a fixed reference image. She looked genuinely happy with the finished set.
Care and Style Notes
Gel on natural nails generally holds for around three to four weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow and how much you use your hands. A few practical points:
- Apply cuticle oil once or twice a day. It keeps the skin around the nail from drying out and helps the edges of the gel stay sealed.
- Never peel or pick lifted gel off. Peeling takes layers of the natural nail with it, which is especially worth avoiding on a first set.
- Wear gloves for dishwashing and cleaning. Hot water and detergent are the usual reason edges start to lift early.
- If a corner catches or lifts, book a removal rather than filing it down yourself.
Accent designs suit people who want nail art but not on every finger — office and school settings, or first-timers who aren’t sure yet how much art they’re comfortable with. Pale palettes are also a low-risk starting point: they grow out less visibly than dark colors, so a small gap at the cuticle is far less noticeable after a couple of weeks.
Comment from Mami
With a first set, I try not to push the design further than what the guest actually pictured. She said “pale colors,” so I kept the saturation down all the way through instead of adding a darker shade somewhere for contrast — that’s usually the temptation, and it would have changed the mood entirely.
The technical part was the base. Light shades hide nothing, so I worked in thin coats and checked the surface under the light between each one. Getting that flat is most of the job on a set like this.
