About This Treatment
Menu: Full Design Light, including removal and rebalancing by the fill-in method. Nail artist: Mami. Extensions: four nails. The guest visited us from the United States.
Design Highlights
The set was built around a full design across every nail, with four of them extended to add length before the art was applied. Extending only a selected few keeps the overall silhouette even — the shorter natural nails and the sculpted ones read as one continuous line rather than two different lengths.
Because the base was maintained with a fill-in rather than a full removal, the existing structure stayed on the nail. That keeps the thickness under control, so a full design can sit on top without the surface looking heavy. The result is a set with length and a finished, all-over design, but a slim profile from the side.
Her Visit
Our guest is a cabin attendant based in New York. She told us she is heading to Thailand and Korea next on her route, and that she already wants to come back to Japan — mainly for shopping. She looked delighted with how the set turned out before heading back out into Harajuku.
Care and Style Notes
A few practical notes on this type of service:
- Fill-in vs. full off. With a fill-in, only the lifted and grown-out area is filed away and refilled. The intact base is left alone, which means less filing on the natural nail each time. It works best when you return on a regular cycle, roughly every three to four weeks.
- Living with extensions. Extended tips take more leverage than natural nails, so opening cans, prying lids, or picking at things is where breakage usually happens. Use the pad of the finger instead of the tip, and apply cuticle oil daily to keep the surrounding skin from drying out.
- Who it suits. Partial extensions are a good option if your nails grow unevenly, if one or two are shorter after a break, or if you want length without committing to a long set on all ten fingers. Full design also travels well — there is no polish to chip in your bag, and it holds up through packing, flights, and back-to-back destinations.
A Note from Mami
Matching the four extended nails to the existing ones was the part that needed the most attention this time. If the sculpted tips are even slightly thicker or set at a different curve, you notice it immediately once the design goes on top, so I checked the profile from the side repeatedly while building. Hearing about her next stops in Thailand and Korea while we worked made the appointment fly by — I hope the set holds up nicely across the rest of her route.
