About This Treatment
- Nailist: Mami
- Menu: Full Design Light, with removal and re-application handled as a fill-in
- Guest: visiting from the United States
Design Highlights
Because removal was added to the same appointment, the art was planned in a slightly pared-back direction, and this was shared with the guest before starting. Fewer elements on the surface means the base itself has to carry the look, so the focus went into an even surface and a clean, consistent line along each cuticle. Working from a fill-in also means the existing base stays in place, so the shape and length were kept continuous with what she already had rather than reset from zero.
A Note From the Visit
She came to us from New York and kept working through most of the appointment — by her own account, 15 to 16 hours a day. Even with a laptop open, the session ran at a steady pace, and she looked genuinely pleased when the finished hands were in front of her.
Care and Style Notes
A fill-in removes the colour and top surface while leaving the sound base layer intact, so the natural nail is filed less often than with a full removal every time. It suits anyone who comes back at regular intervals and wants to keep the same shape rather than rebuild it each visit. General guidance is to come in around the three to four week mark, before the regrowth line becomes too pronounced. Day to day, cuticle oil is the single most useful habit — the base is less likely to lift when the skin around it stays flexible. If you are travelling, note that a fill-in needs an existing base in reasonable condition, so mention your current nails when you book.
Adding removal and full art into one appointment is possible, but the two share the same time slot. If you have a specific design in mind, booking with that in mind gives the art more room.
A Word From Mami
Cutting back the number of elements is not the same as cutting back on thought. When there is less on the nail, the parts that remain get looked at more closely, so I spent the time on the surface and the cuticle line instead. She was in the middle of her work day, so I kept the flow of the session predictable rather than asking her to move around more than necessary.
