Torii Gates and Cranes on Sheer Nude - nail design by lull., Harajuku Tokyo

Torii Gates and Cranes on Sheer Nude | Japanese Motif Nail Art in Tokyo

About This Treatment

This session took place at lull. in Harajuku. The menu was Full Design Custom, including a fill-in for the removal and re-application of the previous set. Nami was the nail artist in charge. The client was visiting from India.

Design Points

The base is a sheer nude that leaves the natural nail visible, with pale blue blossoms drifting across most of the set. A red torii gate is painted on one nail, a crane in fine grey line work on another, and thin red strokes run through the design like falling petals.

Working these motifs at this scale means the line work carries the whole design, so the brush strokes are kept fine and the blossoms are spaced rather than filled in. The sheer base keeps a set of traditional motifs looking light rather than heavy.

A Note from the Visit

The client works as a yoga instructor and is active on social media. During the session, we ended up filming short clips together and talked about a collaboration, so we each recorded video on the day. She seemed genuinely happy with how the time turned out.

Care & Style Tips

The fill-in method is a good fit for people who come back for regular maintenance. Because only the grown-out portion is refilled while the healthy base stays in place, the overall thickness stays controlled over repeat visits and the finish tends to last well.

To keep a custom hand-painted set looking its best, apply cuticle oil daily and wear gloves for cleaning or dishwashing. Avoid using your nails as tools. For active lifestyles, such as yoga or frequent movement, a slim, well-adhered design like this one holds up better than heavily decorated sets with raised parts that can catch or chip.

Comment from the Nail Artist (Nami)

Filming together on the spot was a fun surprise. It’s not every day a session turns into a mini collaboration, and matching a design to someone with an active, on-camera lifestyle is something I enjoy. Keeping the set slim and clean made sense both for the look and for how she moves day to day.
