About This Treatment
This set was done by Nami at lull. in Harajuku. The menu was Accent Design, which covers art on up to six nails, and the appointment started with a soft gel removal of the previous set. The guest is from Italy and a returning client at the salon. The work was done on her own nail length, without extensions.
Design Notes
Accent Design is built around contrast between nails. Instead of repeating one pattern ten times, art is placed on selected fingers while the remaining nails carry a simpler finish, so the hand reads as one composition rather than ten separate pieces. Nami balanced the placement across both hands so the accents stay visible from the front and from the side.
Because the previous gel was removed first, the new layer sits directly on the natural nail surface. That keeps the build thin, the free edge light, and the outline of each nail close to its natural shape.
Notes from the Visit
She has been coming back to lull. for a while now, and this appointment ran the way her visits usually do — plenty of conversation from start to finish. Talking through the set as it goes makes the details easier to settle, and small adjustments to placement get decided on the spot rather than at the end. She looked genuinely pleased with the result when it was done.
Care and Styling Tips
A soft gel set with accent art generally holds for about three to four weeks, depending on how much your hands work. A few habits help it last:
- Apply cuticle oil once a day. Dry skin around the nail is where lifting usually begins.
- Avoid using your nails as tools. Opening cans and peeling stickers puts stress right at the edge, where art tends to chip first.
- Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning. Long exposure to hot water and detergent shortens the life of the gel.
- Never peel a lifted edge. Come in for a proper removal instead — peeling takes surface layers of the natural nail with it.
Accent Design suits anyone who wants nail art without a fully decorated hand. It works well if you need something presentable for work or travel, and it is a practical option for a first gel set, since fewer decorated nails mean less to maintain as the nails grow out.
A Word from Your Nail Artist
Nami: “Working with someone who comes back regularly means I already know what suits her hands, so we can spend the time talking instead of starting from zero. The part I paid attention to this time was the removal — taking the old gel off cleanly is what lets the next set sit flat. Nothing about the art shows well if the base underneath isn’t even.”
