About This Treatment
Design Highlights
Starting from bare nails means the whole shape is decided from scratch. Mami sculpted length on all ten fingers, keeping the sidewalls straight and the curve consistent so the tips line up when the hand is held out flat. The apex sits slightly behind the center of each nail, which keeps thicker built-up areas from looking heavy.
Because every nail carried design, the set was planned as one piece rather than ten separate paintings. Placement shifts nail by nail — some areas fuller, some left quieter — so the eye moves across the hand instead of stopping on a single finger. The thumbs and index fingers, the nails most visible in photos, were given the clearest reading of the design.
Her Visit
She turned out to be a great talker, and the chair filled up with conversation from start to finish — we covered a lot of ground over the course of the appointment. She works as a musician and a designer, so talk naturally drifted toward making things, and toward how visual choices get made. She looked genuinely pleased when the set was finished and she saw her hands from every angle.
Care and Styling Notes
Gel extensions built on natural nails usually hold their look for about three to four weeks. What ends the set is rarely the gel itself — it is the growth at the base, which gradually pushes the stress point away from where it was sculpted. Around the three-week mark, a fill or a fresh set keeps the balance right.
A few habits help the set last:
- Apply cuticle oil once a day. Extensions do not dry out, but the skin around them does, and dry skin is where lifting starts.
- Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning. Long exposure to hot water loosens the seal at the base.
- Never use the nails as tools — no box openers, no can tabs. Built length is strong lengthwise but takes stress badly from the side.
- If a corner catches on something, have it looked at rather than filing it down yourself.
A full ten-nail extension set suits anyone whose natural nails are short, soft, or uneven and who wants a consistent shape across the whole hand. It is also a practical choice for a trip, since one appointment covers the length, the shape, and the design together. If you use your hands a lot day to day, a slightly shorter build is easier to live with and photographs just as well.
A Note from Mami
Ten extensions in one sitting is mostly a matter of keeping the second hand honest to the first — same length, same curve, same thickness at the free edge. I check the two hands side by side several times as I go, because a difference of a millimeter is invisible on one nail and obvious across ten.
Talking with someone who designs for a living also changes the conversation a little. Questions come back at you, and you end up explaining why you chose one line over another. That kind of back-and-forth is one of the better parts of this job. Thank you for the long, good talk.
