The guest visited our Harajuku salon from Taiwan.
Design Points
One color is the kind of menu where everything shows. With no pattern to draw the eye, the finish depends on the base work underneath.
The old soft gel was taken off first, then the nail surface was smoothed and the cuticle area tidied before any color went on. Color was built in thin layers rather than one thick coat, which keeps the shade even across the whole nail and stops it from pooling near the sidewalls. The line along the cuticle was kept close but not touching, so the growth over the following weeks stays subtle.
A gloss top coat finished it, giving the surface a flat, clear shine that reads well in photos and in person.

About Her Visit
She was born in Taiwan and is now based in Los Angeles, and she has worked as a model. Harajuku was part of her Tokyo itinerary, and she came in for a fresh set while she was in the neighborhood.
She looked genuinely pleased with the result when the top coat was cured and she saw her hands under the light — the kind of reaction that makes a simple menu feel like the right call.
Care and Style Notes
Soft gel in a single color generally holds up for around three to four weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow and how much you use your hands.
A few things that help it last:
- Cuticle oil, daily. Dry skin around the nail is the most common reason edges start to lift.
- Don’t pick or peel. Removing gel by hand takes the top layers of the natural nail with it.
- Gloves for cleaning and dishes. Prolonged hot water and detergents weaken the seal at the free edge.
- Book removal properly. Soft gel is designed to be buffed and soaked off, which is far kinder to the nail plate than forcing it.
One color suits people who want their hands to look finished without anything decorative — travelers who need something that works with every outfit in their suitcase, anyone with a workplace dress code, and people who simply prefer a quiet manicure. It’s also the easiest set to top up or change on a future visit, since there’s no artwork to match.
Comment from Nami
With one color, I spend most of my attention on the parts nobody notices: how flat the surface is, whether the color sits at the same thickness on the thumb as on the pinky, how close I can get to the cuticle without flooding it. Those details are what separate a plain manicure from a clean one.
It’s also a menu I enjoy doing for guests who are traveling. There’s nothing to snag, nothing to worry about, and it looks the same on day one as it does at the airport on the way home.
