Holographic Film and Stars on Sheer Nails | Iridescent Design in Tokyo

About This Treatment

This session took place at lull. in Harajuku. The menu was Full Design Light, applied to natural nails with no removal needed. Ten nail extensions were added to build length. The client was visiting from the United States, and the work was handled by our nailist Nami.

Design Points

The base is almost clear, with a fine silver glitter suspended through it so the natural nail still shows. Pieces of holographic film are laid over the top, catching pink and green depending on the angle, and small star-shaped holo flakes are scattered across most of the nails.

Because the film is applied in irregular pieces rather than as a full coat, the shift in colour is uneven, which is what keeps it from looking flat. The effect only fully appears when the hand moves under light.

Care and Style Points

Extensions like these need a little attention to last well. When you use your hands, try to push and pull with the pads of your fingers rather than the nail tips, which lowers the chance of catching or lifting. A light coat of cuticle oil once a day keeps the surrounding skin and the base flexible. Most extension sets hold their shape for around three to four weeks, depending on how fast your own nails grow and how much daily wear they get.

A Full Design Light set with extensions suits people who want added length and full nail art but prefer a lighter, flatter finish over a heavily decorated one. It also works well if you are traveling and want something that photographs cleanly and stays comfortable through a busy trip.

Comment from Your Nailist

Building ten extensions and keeping the art consistent across every nail is where most of the focus went here. I watched the lengthened shape and even surface come together, and it was nice to see the client leave looking happy with how it turned out. — Nami
