About This Treatment
The set was created by our nailist Mami at lull. in Harajuku, using our Full Design Custom menu. The guest visited us from India, and the design was built on bare nails — no removal or re-application of a previous set was needed. No extensions were added, so the finished length follows her own nails.
Design Points
Full Design Custom means the direction is decided at the table, nail by nail. Starting from bare nails, Mami prepped the surface, then built the art in gel across all ten fingers rather than repeating one pattern on every nail. Because there were no extensions in this set, the balance of the artwork was planned around her natural nail shape and length — placement and scale matter more when you’re working with a shorter canvas. The shape and the art were kept in proportion so the design reads clearly from a normal viewing distance, not just up close.

Notes From the Visit
Our guest is currently studying at a university in the UK and stopped by while in Tokyo. Her outfit that day was a real highlight — a genuinely cute, well put-together look — so a lot of the design conversation came back to what she was wearing and what she’d want the nails to sit alongside. We talked things through in English throughout the appointment, and she looked delighted with the finished set.
Care and Styling Notes
A few practical things about a full custom gel set on natural nails:
- Wear time: gel on natural nails generally holds its look for around three to four weeks. As your nails grow, the gap at the cuticle becomes visible, which is usually the cue to come back.
- Daily care: apply cuticle oil once a day. Dry skin around the nail is the most common reason edges start lifting early.
- Avoid prying and scraping: using your nails as tools is what causes most chips. Wearing gloves for dishes and cleaning also helps.
- Don’t peel it off: removing gel by hand takes the top layers of the natural nail with it. Have it soaked off properly.
- Who it suits: this menu works well if you want each nail designed individually rather than one uniform color, and if you’d rather keep your own nail length instead of adding extensions. It’s also a good option for travellers, since a full custom set can be planned in a single visit with the design decided on the spot.
A Word From Mami
Sessions like this one are my favourite kind — the guest arrives with a clear sense of her own style, and my job becomes translating that into ten small surfaces. Having her outfit right there in front of me made the colour and motif decisions much faster than describing them in the abstract. Chatting in English while working keeps the pace conversational, and I could adjust as we went rather than committing to everything before the first coat. Seeing her reaction at the end was the best part of the day.
