About This Treatment
This set was done by Mami at lull. in Harajuku.
The menu was Accent Design (up to 6 nails), with the previous gel handled by fill-in rather than a full removal. The guest is from the UK, and this was her third visit to us.
Design Points
Accent Design means the art is placed on selected nails instead of all ten. Up to six nails carry the design, and the remaining nails are finished as a supporting base, so the hand reads as one composition rather than ten separate pictures. The balance of which fingers get the art — and which stay quiet — is decided while looking at the actual hand shape and nail length.
The base was built with fill-in. Instead of filing the whole gel layer off, the lifted and grown-out areas near the cuticle are cleaned up, and new gel is added to rebuild the curve and the apex. Because the older layer underneath stays in place, the surface height can be kept even and the new art sits on a flat, settled foundation.

Guest Story
Her third time in our chair. Each visit has come with easy, unhurried conversation, and this one was no different — the kind of appointment where the talking and the nails move at the same pace.
She looked genuinely pleased when the set was finished and she saw her hands in the light.
Care and Style Notes
A few practical points about this type of menu.
Fill-in. Because the base layer is kept, fill-in puts less filing stress on the natural nail than repeated full removals. It works best when you come back on a fairly regular cycle — roughly every three to four weeks — before lifting spreads under the gel. If a nail has clear lifting, breakage, or discoloration, a full removal is the safer call for that nail, and we judge it one nail at a time.
Accent Design. Art on a limited number of nails keeps the appointment shorter than full-set art while still giving the hand a focal point. It suits people who want something noticeable but not loud, and it’s an easy choice for travelers who have a fixed number of days in Tokyo and want to use the time well.
Daily care. Cuticle oil once or twice a day keeps the sidewalls flexible and helps the edges stay sealed. Gloves for dishes and cleaning also make a real difference to how long the fill-in cycle holds.
A Word from Mami
Repeat visits change how I work. By the third set, I already know how her nails grow out, where the lifting tends to start, and how much thickness her hands carry comfortably — so I can spend less time checking and more time on the art itself.
That’s the quiet advantage of fill-in on a returning guest: the base keeps getting more predictable each time.
